Update 11/1: Winners posted here
UPDATE 10/22 8pmCST: Contest is CLOSED. Delaney and I are reading through these amazing entries. Thank you for sharing your heart. A winner will be chosen soon. We will have something extra exciting to share so please be patient.
I will admit it. In 2007, when my sweet girl was but one year old, I had never heard of the phenomenon that is the American Girl. But my mother-in-law had. And she was thrilled to open both Delaney and I up to the experience. And when Delaney was only a year and half (Fall 2007) we began what is now an annual tradition of heading to Chicago to visit the American Girl Doll Store every November.
When the introductions were first made, I was floored by the culture – the clothes, the hair-stying, the boutique and restaurant, but taken by the stories and history that accompany each doll. This shared love of these dolls bonded granddaughter to grandmother.
Now, you may already know this – but for the first time ever, American Girl has launched two new dolls together: Cecile and Marie-Grace… as their stories – based in the 1850’s in New Orleasns go hand-in-hand. Literally.
The song Delaney and I mention in the video, “A Lot Like Me” is performed by Kate Connick is available on iTunes. (Download it now!) All proceeds from song downloads benefit after-school programming at the newly founded Ellis Marsalis Center for Music in New Orleans. After chatting with both Kate and Harry Connick, Jr, it was easy to understand that a large portion of their motivation for being involved in this project with American Girl is to ensure that the beauty of the New Orleans sounds will live on in future generations. The Center opened in late August and is located in the heart of Musicians’ Village in the Upper Ninth Ward….an area severly effected by Hurrican Katrina. It provides classrooms, rehearsal space, a recording studio, a state-of-the-art performance hall and the opportunity for children to learn from some of the areas music legends.
The American Girl (Marie-Grace) Giveaway
Giving away Marie-Grace was Delaney’s idea…. since the story behind the dolls is one of friendship, Delaney thought it would be fun to make a new ‘friend’ by giving one away. To enter the Giveaway for Marie-Grace, please share a story in the comments below of a little girl you know who would be especially tickled by the addition of Marie-Grace to their home. Delaney and I will read each and every story. We won’t accept entries that simply say, “Sally would like Marie Grace because she is a good girl/likes the doll/has always wanted one”, etc. Put on your story-telling caps, friends. It is important to both Delaney and I that Marie-Grace go to a loving home.
No purchase necessary to enter. ExtraordinaryMommy.com is not responsible for prizes that are shipped from outside vendors or sponsors. All entries will be pooled together and one (1) winner will be drawn. The winner will have two calendar days to reply via email. Unclaimed prizes will be placed for availability to newly chosen winners after that time. Giveaway is open to all U.S. residents only, must be at least 18 years old to enter. One entry per person, entries accepted through October 21, 2011 ending at exactly 11:59 CDT. Entries that do not follow all of the entry requirements will not be considered.
